Civil Wedding FAQ

A civil marriage is the lawful union of a man and woman solemnized as a civil contract, under secular rules, regardless of faith or nationality.

It is regulated by Article 4 and 5 of the Civil Marriage Law No. 14 of 2021.

Required Documents:

  • A copy of the husband’s passport is mandatory
  • A copy of the wife’s passport is mandatory
  • A copy of the husband’s personal identity (Emirates ID)
  • A copy of the wife’s personal identity (Emirates ID)
  • If divorced, a divorce certificate is required. If widowed, a death certificate is required. For certificates issued within the UAE, they must be attested by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA). For documents issued outside the UAE, they must be attested by the UAE embassy in the issuing country and also bear the UAE MOFA stamp
  • Attach conditions/prenuptial agreement signed by both parties in advance and certified legally translated (in case there are conditions only)
  • Payment of AED 200 Court fee is required and must be paid at the court on Wedding day

Those who apply for RAK Civil Wedding must meet the following conditions:

  • Both husband and wife should be 21 years old and above. The age is proven by any official document issued by the country to which each of them belongs by his/her nationality.
  • The marriage shall not be between brothers and children, grandchildren, uncles, aunts, or any other cases specified by the executive regulations.
  • Each spouse should express his/her consent to the marriage before the attestation Judge, and the absence of anything legally precluding the consideration of his/her consent.
  • The spouses’ signature on the disclosure form.
  • Any other conditions specified by the executive regulations of the law.
  • Husband and wife must not be Muslim.

It is possible for anyone, regardless of religion, to obtain a civil marriage other than UAE nationals and other than Muslim.

No. Tourists are encouraged to obtain a civil marriage, regardless of where they live. You will need to travel to Abu Dhabi for the civil marriage ceremony.

The marriage ceremony takes place in the Family Court in RAK Courts main court building. Show me.

The marriage ceremonies may take place on the following dates and times:

Monday to Friday: 9:30am-10:00am

During Ramadan All appointments are subject to the courts availability and are allocated a 30-minute time slot. Times may vary during Ramadan and the Court is closed during public holidays and on weekends.

RAK Courts guidelines:

  • Showing lots of skin (legs and shoulders) is NOT allowed.
  • ONLY Ankle length clothes are allowed
  • Mesh or transparent types of clothes are NOT allowed
  • Professional photographers are NOT allowed
  • Photos can be taken inside the Ceremony room ONLY and not in the court vicinity

You must also bring your passport and if you are a UAE resident, you should also bring your Emirates ID.

There is no requirement to bring a witness however you are welcome to bring family and friends to the ceremony.

Yes, but it is not mandatory. Please let the team know upon arrival if you wish to exchange rings or include your own vows.

Ceremony Date and Time is subject to availability assigned by the court. You can always share with us your preferred date and time and we will do our best to accommodate your request within our reach with the court.

The Court aims to conduct marriage ceremonies within 15 minutes.

Yes, you may take pictures during the marriage ceremony inside the ceremony room ONLY. Please be advised that taking picture in the court vicinity is NOT allowed.

Yes, you can bring guests with you to the marriage ceremony.

When you receive your marriage certificate, it is recommended that you get it notarised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. We can help you Document Attestation if you wish.

NO, it is NOT possible for Muslims to use the RAK civil marriage service.

Civil marriage is like any other official marriage; it is approved and issued by the Court and will then need to be attested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. If you have any concerns, you should contact your embassy. We can guide you through this process if you wish.

Refund Policy:

We kindly ask for notification of cancellation as soon as possible to allow for necessary adjustments. Service Date Rescheduling:
Service date rescheduling is permissible free of charge within the same calendar year as the original service date.
Note: Rescheduling service date is based on availability from our vendors.

Wedding Date Rescheduling:
Wedding date rescheduling is permissible free of charge within the same calendar year as the original wedding date.
Note: Rescheduling Civil or Muslim (Nikah) Court wedding date is based on availability from the court.
